Aardvark Social is a proof of concept social media app built on Veilid. While it was initially conceived as a technology demonstrator, it quickly became clear it could actually do well as an app in it's own right and development continued on it beyond it's initial scope.
Originally, it was intended to be a small scale experimental social media app built on veilid - a technology demonstrator, if you will. Enough people liked the idea - and the resulting app - that I continued to add features and capabilities.

What is it?
Simply put, it's social media on your terms. There are no servers, no corporations, no data silos, no advertisements, no AI scrapers... or scrapers of any kind. Data is private, secure, and yours...always.
By it's nature, Aardvark promotes smaller scale social interactions that are meaningful, intentional, and relevant. There is no discovery feature - every person you follow is an intentional choice.
That said, it does have many features that are familiar to those who use social media. You can share photos and videos. You can boost other peoples posts to allow for a greater audience (called an echo post). You can reply to posts, share gifs, and other things you might do on social media today... and all of it without centralized server infrastructure... which means no infrastructure costs to run it, no corporate interests controlling things, and users maintaining complete control over their data.
